Update: We’re now looking for intern researchers to start in May and June 2012! Interested?

This year we are offering Technology Internships and Music Researcher Internships

Technology Developers – Internships

We’re looking for a number of computer science, software development or database architecture students with an interest in digital music.

We know that a good developer needs more than just good development skills… Identifying solutions, understanding the business, lateral thinking, and steely determination to weed out bugs are all of primary importance. If you have some or any of the following skills, get in touch.

Ruby

SQL Server

C# coding

.net Framework

Silverlight

ASP

Interested? email: jobs@decibel.net

Music Researchers – Internships

We’re looking for smart, interesting, and hard-working people to join our researcher team. We’re looking for a number of students and recent graduates with an interest in digital music..

Whether you’re into Pop, Rock’n'Roll, House, Classical, Jazz, Dubstep, or rubbish 80s pop – then this is the right chance to join the ‘next big thing’ in the global digital music sector.

You could be a musician, a DJ, or a clubber, or a smooth jazz lover – as long as you’re as obsessed about music as we are, you’re welcome to apply to join our award-winning team.

At the end of the internship successful candidates may well be offered a permanent role – over the last 12 months, we’ve offered permanent jobs to 5 of our very best.

Although these are unpaid internships, this is not a ‘make the tea and go to the post office’ internship, Very specifically, we want to make sure our researchers are compensated by offering a combination of the below:

- new key skills

- on the job training

- external training

- on rare occasions, a travel card / oyster card to pay for travel expenses

- an ability to find and define your own roles and responsibilities with the company after a first initial period

- networking contacts in the music and digital sectors

- invitation to industry events

- invitation for Decibel to speak at your colleges

- help with college coursework and reports

- certification for their college or university

- face to face meetings with industry executives

- reference letters for prospective employers

- personal references and online references on job seeking sites

- interviews with other companies who are recruiting

- on occasions where you have worked out of hours, we have offered cash rewards

- some have been offered a salaried role with Decibel

Some of our researchers have gone on to work for some of the best digital and music companies in the world. We’re based in Covent Garden – Holborn, surrounded by the media district and always have interesting companies coming in to visit us.

If you’re interested to join the team, whether for a summer, or after graduation, send your CV and a thoughtful answer to the following question to: jobs@decibel.net

Question: “What music are you into – and why?”

After the bank holiday weekend, I’m sure a few of you may well be in need of a helping hand this morning. Rather than advocate the real thing (of course, we would never dream of doing such terrible things), how about an audio equivalent?

Our loyal intern Mazzie has put together a list of his top ten spirit related tracks and even given us a Spotify playlist to take out the hassle of having to find them ourselves.

So sit back, relax and let the music do its work, but have the tomato juice on standby just in case.

Calexico – Cachaça

You can find the spottily playlist here.

If you like this, check out one of our favourite websites at Decibel, Drinkify. It’s a service that can provide you with the perfect drink for whatever you’re listening to… and sometimes it might surprise you with something a little stronger.

…David Bowie, who when he started out in the mid-1960s also recorded by the name of Davy (or Davie) Jones. To avoid confusion with his namesake, however, he renamed himself Bowie, apparently after the knife which itself was named after and popularised by American frontiersman, Jim Bowie. In June 1969 Bowie drafted a young…

…Rick Wakeman to play mellotron on his song Space Oddity, for which he was apparently paid £9. Wakeman would be invited back to play with Bowie the following year, contributing piano parts to Life on Mars, Changes and Oh! You Pretty Things, and again in 1985 to play on Absolute Beginners. Wakeman started out as a session musician before going on to join the Strawbs, and then more famously, prog rock band Yes in 1971. He also played piano on the 1971 version of Morning Has Broken released by English singer-songwriter…

…Nicky Hopkins, who more famously played on the Rolling Stones’ studio albums between 1967 and 1981. Hopkins was one of London’s most in-demand session pianists during the 1960s, also playing on records by The Kinks, The Pretty Things, The Move and The Who. On a number of occasions – includng the Matthew and Sons session and as part of a supergroup that guitar virtuoso Jeff Beck attempted to put together in 1996, which included Jimmy Page and Keith Moon, Hopkins would play with another session musician who like Wakeman and Page would go on to rock superstardom, bass player…
