What brings you to Decibel, Emma?
I am doing a Music Technology degree at Kingston University, I’m in my final year and really want to get experience from the music industry which is why I am here.
Are you involved in the music industry outside of this internship?
I have a club night called ‘Personality Crisis Club’. It is a monthly night at The Macbeth in Hoxton/various venues. I also have a radio show at independent radio station Camden Unsigned, where we only play unsigned music.
What was the first record/CD/music you ever bought?
‘Spice’ by Spice Girls.
What’s the last record/CD/music you bought?
‘Father, Son, Holy Ghost’ by Girls
What are some of your favourite musicians/bands/acts?
Crystal Stilts, S.C.U.M, Girls, The Smiths, X-Ray Spex, Patti Smith, David Bowie, The Strange Boys, Velvet Underground, Nirvana, Chinawoman, Joy Division, Felt, Guillemots, Wild Nothing, The Clash, The Strokes, Blondie, The Stooges, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Ralph Vaughan Williams etc.
Where do you discover much of your music?
I go to gigs at least a couple of times per week and that’s mainly how I discover good, unsigned acts. I also read music blogs and my friends recommend a lot of good music to me.
What’s the last gig you went to?
Girls at Electric Ballroom in Camden.
If you are a festival goer, what was your best or worst festival experience?
I went to Camp Bestival a couple of years ago, it’s a really cosy festival and the lineup was great with a mix of famous bands and quite unknown acts. I also like city festivals like Field Day, I saw the XX play there when they were really new which was an amazing gig experience.
What’s your favourite music/concert venue?
When it comes to bigger venues I really like Koko and Forum. When it comes to smaller venues my favourites ones are The Macbeth in Hoxton and The Wheelbarrow in Camden.
Do you play an instrument?
I play the guitar, flute and a little bit of piano.
Mac or PC?
Mac!
iTunes, Spotify, Grooveshark or Last FM?
I am addicted to Spotify, I also use iTunes a lot.
X-Factor or Strictly Come Dancing?
Neither.
Tea or coffee? And how do like it?
Really strong coffee with a little bit of milk.
Thanks, Emma. And welcome to Decibel!
